Breadth 1: Still Life
Due: July 31
Create a still life using any medium. Somethings to include: fruit, vegetables, fish, vases, plants, figurines, etc... Use graphite as your medium.
Breadth 2: Architectural Detail
Due: August 14
Look at man made structures and find a detail to draw in any medium. Somethings to look at: Faucets, building exteriors, roofs, plumbing, government structures, etc. Use ink as your medium.
Breadth 3: Striped/Patterned sheets, tie knots
Due: August 28
Create a composition of sheets tied in knot(s). Add value using charcoal.
Breadth 4: Significant Event Through Text and Imagery
Due: September 11
Recall a significant event from your past and create a piece of art that memorializes the event through integrated use of text and imagery. Use acrylic/watercolor as your medium.
Breadth 5: Narrative Self-Portrait
Due: September 25
Create a narrative self-portrait to convey your individual visual story (cultural heritage, family dynamics, social statement, contemporary issues, how you see yourself, how others see you). The medium is open.
Breadth 6: Object Enlarged to Abstraction
Due: October 12
Pick an object of interest, one with intersting shapes and negative spaces. Enlarge a section of the object and draw it to fill the edges of the paper. Add value and color with color pencils.
Breadth 7: Thing(s) in motion
Due: October 12
Choose something that moves, take a picture of it in motion and draw it in pencil. Use chalk pastel to add the effect of movement.
Breadth 8: Studies of glass
Due: October 23
Create a still life of glass objects and try to create the colored reflections seen through the glass or find a reflection through a pane of glass. Look at the artist Janet Fish. Use color pencil as the medium.
Breadth 9: Hats
Due: November 13
Create a still life of hats, either multiple hats arranged or a single hat in an interesting location. Charcoal or wax pencil.
Breadth 10: Texture and Light
Due: November 30
Create a composition using a camera to focus on light to create texture. Photography is the medium.
Breadth 11: Figurative Drawing
Due: December 11
Draw a person in a pose using a prop. The medium is Multimedia(graphite, charcoal, watercolor, collage, ink, etc..)
Breadth 12: Collage
Due: January 5
Pick a subject matter (portrait, landscape, animal, abstract, etc.) Take a picture of the subject matter in an interesting composition. Cut out magazine and newspaper clippings that match the values in the picture and glue them on the picture.
