Week 1: Get sketchbook
Due: July 21
Buy a spiral or bounded sketchbook or create your own with copy paper and a folder
Week 2: Continuous Line Drawing
Due: July 28
Choose an object to create a continuous line drawing where your pen(not pencil) stays on the paper until the drawing is complete. Observe every detail of your object to include in the drawing.
Week 3: Shape with Words
Due: August 4
Draw the contour lines of a shape in pencil. Fill in the shape with words related to the shape in bubble, block, or any stylized letters. Erase the pencil marks after the shape is filled to reveal the drawing of an obect with words.
Week 4: Value Scale Worksheet
Due: August 11
Fill out the value scales on this worksheet according to the specific shading technique.
Week 5: Metallic Object
Due: August 18
Draw a metallic object to fill the page and add value using one of the shading techniques. Remember to use a full range of value.
Week 6: Still-life Drawing
Due: August 25
Choose 3 to 5 objects and set them on a table or platform. Set up a light source on the objects to create shadows. Draw the objects and add value to them using one of the shading techniques.
Week 9: No Homework

Due: August 31
Read the article "Monkey See, Monkey Do?" and craft and argument using the questions provided. Form a paragraph, use complete sentences, and be grammatically correct when answering the questions.
Week 8: Free Drawing
Due: September 8
Draw for at least 45 minutes any visual idea, concept, or image filling the entire page.
Week 10: Favorite Cartoon Character
Due: October 6
Draw your favorite cartoon character and add value through color or black and white
Week 11: Non-Domesticated Animal
Due: October 13
Draw an animal, other than a dog or cat, and add value.
Week 12: Proportions of the Face
Due: October 20
Use the handout as a guide to draw a face. When finished erase the guidelines and add details and value.
Week 13: Halloween Character
Due: October 27
Draw a Halloween character of your choice and add value.
Week 14: Vase of Flowers
Due: November 3
Ideally, set up a still-life of a vase of flowers and draw them adding value. If you do not have the resources, find a picture of flowers online and draw them adding value.
Week 15: Geometric Knight Selfie
Due: November 10
Yearbook Cover! Design the yearbook cover by drawing a Knight taking a selfie in a geometrical design.
Week 16: Design a Pair of Shoes
Due: November 17
Design a pair of shoes based on shoes that already exist or create a whole new shoe. Regardless add value with pencil or color
Week 17: Free Drawing
Due: December 1
Draw for at least 45 minutes any visual idea, concept, or image filling the entire page.
Week 18: No Homework
Due: December 8
2nd Semester
Week 1: 3 Balance Designs
Due: January 12
Create three small designs, each one illustrating the three different types of balance (Assymmetrical, Symmetrical, and Radial)
Week 2: Broken Object Drawing
Due: January 19
Find an object at home that is broken, or ask parents if there is something that is in the home that is of no use anymore that can be broken. Draw the object and its pieces and add value
Week 3: Merging Animals
Due: January 26
Pick two animals and combine attributes of both in a drawing, don't forget to add value.
Week 4: Tool Metamorphosis
Due: February 2
Pick a tool and an animal and draw them, then draw the combination of both of them illustrating qualities of both.
Week 5: Fabric Folds
Due: February 9
Draw the folds in fabric either with bedding, clothing, or any household fabric. Add value to the fabric using pencil.
Week 6: Debate
Due: February 16
Read the article "Artists or Activists?" and craft and argument using the questions provided. Form a paragraph, use complete sentences, and be grammatically correct when answering the questions.
Week 7: Draw a President from Dollar or Coin
Due: February 23
Pick a coin or dollar and draw the president as shown. Add value through cross hatching.
Week 8: Botanical Study
Due: March 2
Pick a flower or any plant. Add value based on observation.
