Michael Hoyt Sloan
I am the Elite Scholars Academy high school art teacher, Connections Department Head, Key Club Sponsor, and high school boys soccer coach. I am super excited this 2018-2019 school year to be teaching Fundamentals of Design, Drawing and Painting, Sculpture, and AP Art. This is my eighth year at Elite as well as Georgia. I am originally from Salado, Texas which is about 45 miles from Austin. The University of Texas is where I received my undergraduate degree in Radio-Television-Film. I worked at KXAN TV as a camera man before joining the Peace Corps. The Republic of Moldova in Eastern Europe is where I was stationed as ESL teacher. The Peace Corps is where I got my itch for teaching and where I met my beautiful wife Lauren. When I returned to the states I continued my education in art at San Francisco Art Institute and Georgia State University where I received my degree in art education.
I have been teaching for 11 years and have been loving every moment. Art is all around us and I am blessed to be able to show my students that there are many paths they can choose to be a part of the industry. When I am not teaching I love running, painting, cooking, camping while spending time with my wife and two wonderful boys Townes (age 8) and Miles (age 5), as well as my dog Porter.
